Sovereign fuel storage for Australia

Australian Strategic Energy is developing large scale fuel storage infrastructure to strengthen the nation's fuel security and resilience.

Who we are

Australian Strategic Energy is an Australian owned infrastructure company, established to develop, own and operate bulk liquid fuel storage together with the distribution capability that sits around it.

Our model is infrastructure, not fuel trading. Capacity is designed to be made available to fuel suppliers, obligated stockholders, industry and government on open commercial terms.

The company is privately held and Australian controlled. We work with landowners, governments and industry to build capacity that serves the national interest as well as the commercial one.

What we are working toward

  • Strategic storage capacity held onshore in Australian territory, capable of serving the national interest at a time of need.
  • Distribution capability to match the storage, so that fuel can reach more than one part of the country during a disruption.
  • Capacity delivered in stages, so that useful storage comes online early.
  • Projects developed in genuine partnership with landowners and regional communities, with local jobs and training built in from the start.
  • Storage that governments and industry can rely on, engineered and operated to Australian standards, on Australian soil.

Why it matters

Australia imports most of the refined fuel it uses. Supply lines are long, onshore stockholding is thin, and the fuels that keep freight, agriculture, mining and regional communities running arrive by sea.
